Maxine (Painter) Wheatley, age 82, entered into eternal rest at 6:40 a.m. on Sunday, August 30, 2015 in her home surrounded by her loving daughters.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 3, 2015 at Pagel Funeral Homes in Edgewood, Illinois. Herman H. Painter Jr. will be officiating. Burial will be at Arborcrest Memorial Park in rural Altamont. Visitation will be on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 from 5 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be made to HSHS Hospice Southern Illinois or donor’s choice.

Maxine was born on January 28, 1933 in Clay County, Illinois, the daughter of Pearle and Bertha (Chase) Painter. Maxine grew up with four brothers, Purley, Herman, Roy and Clarence and four sisters, Bertha Mae, Pauline, Mary, and Evelyn. She married Richard O. Wheatley on June 27, 1950 in Effingham, Illinois. Into this union were two daughters, Sandra and Donna and one son, David. Maxine was a homemaker and a farm wife in rural Mason, West Township where she resided for 65 years. She was a baptized believer of the Christian faith. Maxine was a Certified Nursing Assistant and worked as a hospice volunteer in her younger years, she also volunteered in the aftermath of the St. Anthony Hospital fire of 1949. Maxine served as an election judge in West Township for many years and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She loved to garden, hunt, fish and bird watch but was most proud of her family.

She is survived by her daughters, Sandra (husband David) Wilson of Mason, Illinois and Donna Wheatley (special friend Gary Woods) of Mason, Illinois; sister, Mary Roome (husband Gerald) of Toledo, Illinois; grandchildren, Sarah Raddatz (husband David), Matthew Wilson (wife Nikki), Emily Stuemke (husband Kyle), Amy Logsdon (husband Skylar) and Dustin Lightfoot; great-grandchildren, Brynn, Christian, Brayden, Nathan, Jenna, Gabriel, and Reed and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Pearle and Bertha (Chase) Painter; husband, Richard O.; son, David Richard; sisters, Pauline, Bertha Mae and Evelyn in infancy; brothers, Purley, Herman, Roy and Clarence.
