Betty Joan Byers, age 85, of Iola, Illinois passed away at 12:25 p.m. Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at Lakeland Nursing Home in Effingham, Illinois.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at Calvary Apostolic Tabernacle in Iola, Illinois. There will be a one-hour viewing prior to the service. Pastor Durre will be officiating. Burial will be at Iola Cemetery in Iola, Illinois. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, January 15, 2018 at Pagel Funeral Homes in Edgewood, Illinois. Memorials may go to the Calvary Apostolic Tabernacle in Iola, Illinois or the donor’s choice. 

Betty was born on June 11, 1932 in Bible Grove Township, Clay County, Illinois, the daughter of Russell and Mabel (Lister) Livingood. She married William Herbert Byers on November 20, 1948 in Edgewood, Illinois. She was a lifelong member of the Calvary Apostolic Tabernacle in Iola, Illinois. She loved going to church and spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by five sons, Lonnie Byers of Farina, Illinois, John Byers (wife Sara) of Iola, Illinois, Thomas Byers (wife Janet) of Iola, Illinois, Terry Byers (wife Sandra) of Salem, Illinois, Calvin Byers (wife Melissa) of Iola, Illinois; brothers, Jimmy Livingood (wife Mary) of Bethany, Illinois, Dale Livingood (friend Diane) of Pana, Illinois; sisters, Thelma Bassett of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, Mary Bromm of Newton, Illinois, Dessie Powell (husband James) of Shelbyville, Illinois and Nancy Earnest (Darrel) of Newton, Illinois; 22 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Mabel Livingood; husband, William Herbert Byers; two sons, Jerry L. Byers and Billy Byers; three brothers, Roy Livingood, Oscar Livingood, Donald Livingood and one grandchild.
