Betty Ann McElyea, 65, of Farina, IL. passed away at12:15 p.m. Monday, May 12, 2014 at St. Anthony Memorial Hospital in Effingham, IL.

Graveside service will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 17, 2014 at Keen's Chapel Cemetery, rural LaClede, IL., with Gary Shirley officiating. Memorials may be made to the family.

She was born on September 9, 1948 in Larkinsburg, Twp., the daughter of Joseph and Betty J. (Sapp) Cook. She married George McElyea on November 13, 1967. Betty enjoyed reading and spending time with her grandchildren. She was also a dedicated cubs fan.

Betty is survived by her husband, George of Farina, IL.; her mother, Betty J.Loy of LaClede, IL.; two sons, Greg McElyea (wife Betty Jo) of Edgewood, IL., Richard Simmons (wife Robin) of Clay City, IL.; three daughters, Tammy Verdyen (husband Ron) of Mason, IL., Mary Ann Johnson (husband Thomas) of Edgewood, IL., Daisy Gelsinger (husband Rick) of Kidmundy, IL.; five sisters, Kris Whipple (husband Lonnie) of Shobonier, IL., Cathy Landreth of LaClede, IL., Gail Fisher of Texas, Barb Landreth (husband Joe) of LaClede, IL., and Pam Loy of LaClede, IL.; and 8 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father and one brother-n-law, Gerald Landreth.
