Carl Winkler, age 94 of rural Mason, Illinois went to be with Jesus at 8:45 a.m. Sunday, April 19, 2015 at the Lutheran Care Center in Altamont, Illinois.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 23, 2015 at the Harvest United Methodist Church in Edgewood, Illinois with one hour viewing prior to service. Jeff Morrison and Roger McIntire will be officiating. Burial will be at Arborcrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Effingham, Illinois. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at the Harvest United Methodist Church in Edgewood, Illinois. Carl was born on June 5, 1920 on the Winkler Farm's homestead that was established in 1863 in rural Mason, Illinois, the son of Carl F. and Nellie (Shenefield) Winkler. He married Imogene "Jeanie" McKnight on July 15, 1944 in Effingham, Illinois, who preceded him in death on October 2, 2012. He was a member of the Harvest United Methodist Church in Edgewood, Illinois, the Effingham Farm Bureau and was a 4-H coach for the Western Rooters softball team. He was an avid sports fan, gave extra support to the Altamont Indians and was a Chicago Cub's fan. He also enjoyed peasant hunting, bowling, and spending quality time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his son, Mark Winkler (wife Carolyn) of Alhambra, IL; daughter, Deborah Nelson (husband Paul) of Edgewood, IL; four grandchildren, Josh (wife Heather) Nelson, Abby (husband Dustin) Thompson, Caitlin (fiancé Aaron McDaniel) Winkler, and Lucas Winkler; three great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Colton, and Weston Nelson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Nellie Winkler; wife, Jeanie Winkler; sister, Florence Winkler.
