"Chuck" or "Charley" as he was known by friends was born
Kazimieras Joannes Eidimtos, to Lithuanian immigrant parents Ladisla Kazimieras and Morelannae (Strizigauskaite) Eidimtos in Chicago, Illinois on December 1, 1919. He married Velna "Peggy" Towles on November 8, 1947 in Edgewood, Illinois, who survives. This union was blessed with six children. Charles was quite proud of his Lithuanian heritage, but he fully embraced his American citizenship, honorably serving his country during World War II.
Of his four year hitch served in the Army, 32 months were spent overseas in the Philippines, Australia, and Japan. Upon receiving his discharge from the military, Charles farmed for a number of years in the Mason/Edgewood area in the late 1940s and early 1950s. He later gained employment at the Norge factory in Effingham where he was employed for many years. Charles was a long-time member and a deacon of the Mason Christian Church. Because of age and health issues "Chuck and Peg" relocated from their rural Watson home to a home in Effingham where he placed his membership with Cornerstone Christian Church. Though born in Chicago, he was an avid St. Louis Cardinal's fan throughout his life, listening to many of the 'Card's' games on the radio. Having received mechanics training in the military, he enjoyed tinkering with cars and lawnmowers as well as watching and playing sports, fishing, gardening and the sweat of honest labor. Above all, faith and family were the guiding principles of his life.
He is survived by his two sons, Richard Eident (wife Joy) of Mattoon, IL., Jerry Eident (wife Jeannie) of rural Mason, IL; three daughters, Helen Weaver (husband David) of rural Altamont, IL., Janet Byrd (husband Ray) of
Marion, NC., Barbara Brazle (husband Virgil) of Florissant, MO. Charles is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 9 step-great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Walter of Des Plaines; two sisters, Alice Zmora of Chicago, Marcella Kuhlman of Mason; and infant son, Lawrence.
