Donald "Don" L. Oertwig, 62, of St. Peter, passed away at 3:45 a.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2015 surrounded by his family at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at St. Peter Lutheran Church with one hour viewing prior to service. Rev. William Emrick will be officiating. Burial will be at the St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at Pagel Funeral Home in St. Peter. Memorials may be made to St. Peter Lutheran Church, Lutheran Care Center in Altamont, Illinois or donor's choice. Pagel Funeral Home in St. Peter is in charge of the arrangements.
Don was born on April 14, 1953, in St. Peter, son of Adolph and Bernice (Jasper) Oertwig. He married Marsha Bassett at Alma Christian Church on December 14, 1974.
He was a life-long member of St. Peter Lutheran Church. After graduating from LaGrove High School in Farina, IL, he started working for Rubin Trucking. In 1987, he started driving a semi for Sherwin-Williams CTS in Effingham, IL, and recently retired with 28 years of service. He enjoyed spending time with his family and riding his Harleys. His strong work ethic and sense of humor will live on in those who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Marsha Oertwig of St. Peter; daughter, Stacy Wood and her husband Mark of Forsyth, IL; daughter Erica Gallina and her husband Matt of Ozark, MO; brother Charles Oertwig (Sheila) of St. Peter; sisters Janet (Robert) Richardson of Galesburg, IL and JoAnn (Brien) Guy of St. Peter; three grandchildren, Rachel and Ryan Wood and Kasen Gallina and mother-in-law, Nellie Fern Bassett.
He was preceded in death by his parents Adolph and Bernice Oertwig and father-in-law, Marvin Bassett.
