George D Brown Jr., age 96, of Mattoon, Illinois passed away at 2:45 a.m.

Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at Sarah Bush Lincoln Hospital in Mattoon.

Graveside service will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 5, 2024 at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri with military rites.  Jim Giffin will be officiating.

George was born on August 2, 1927, in Kirkwood, Missouri, the son of George D.

Brown Sr. and Coletta (O'Brian) Brown. He married Lorna G. Otten on April 19,

1956 in Missouri. He served in the United States Navy. He loved boating and

fishing on the river and was a Boy Scout leader for several years.

He is survived by his son George D. Brown III (wife Mary) of Missouri; sisters, Judy

Clifford and Tricia Dailey both of Key West, Florida; three grandchildren, Lorna

Sue Harrell, David Brown (wife Jenna) and Michael Brown; four greatgrandchildren, Gaetano Gagliardi, Gauge Brown, Jasmine, Isayah, David and Joel; great-niece Nicole Perry Brown (Richard) and her family.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorna Brown; daughters, Leslie Harrell and

Terry Jenkins; brother, Sonny Brown; grandchild, Daniel Brown; nephew

William Brown; sisters-in-law, Theresa and Maryann Brown.
