Irma Jean Kruenegel, 84, of St. Peter, IL passed away peacefully at 1:30 a.m. Friday, November 07, 2014 at her home .
Funeral service will be Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Peter Lutheran Church with burial in Keen's Chapel Cemetery. Rev. William Emrick will be officiating. Visitation will be at Pagel Funeral Home in St. Peter from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, November 10, 2014. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Peter Area Cancer Support Group, Keen's Chapel or the donor's choice. Pagel Funeral Homes in St. Peter is assisting the family with arrangements.
Irma Jean was born on August 27, 1930 in LaClede, IL., the daughter of James and Audrey (Wagoner) Long. Those who knew and loved her understood her devotion to her family, the community and helping others. This passion led her to found the St. Peter Area Cancer Society Support Group in 1995 which continues to provide encouragement and support for those undergoing a battle with cancer to this day. She also was a very active committee member to the Fayette County Relay for Life and helped lead her local team, the "Lifesavers", to be the top fundraising team for the past few years.
Irma Jean was a beautician in her home for 65 years and was the owner of the Village Attic in St. Peter where her love for flowers and her unique flower arrangements became well known in the community. In addition to the above, her hobbies included bowling, crocheting, floral arranging and most importantly spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by two sons: James Kruenegel of St. Peter, Illinois and Steve Kruenegel (wife Lori) of Kinmundy, Illinois; daughter: Cherie Kruenegel of St. Peter, Illinois; daughter in law, Sue (Kruenegel) Sieveking (husband Carl) of Branson, MO; three brothers, James Long (wife Nancy) Baskett, KY, John Long of Tennessee, Scottie Long (wife Cindy) of Henderson, KY; two sisters, Shirley Roberts of Georgetown, IN, Sharon Utley (husband Buddy) of Henderson, KY;
Grandchildren, Erin Scott (husband John), Beth Spencer, Kisha Hopkins (husband Jeff), Jennifer Cortese (husband Michael), Ian Kruenegel, Abbey Kruenegel, Seth Kruenegel (wife Karli) and Brennan Kruenegel; Great-Grandchildren, Layla Word, Mallory Hopkins, Anthony Hopkins, Ryan Cortese, Ethan Scott, Miles Scott and Cohen Kruenegel.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Richard Long; one sister, Lela Mae Burnette and a son, Michael Kruenegel.
