Jerry L. Ready, 75, of Mahomet passed away Tuesday (Jan. 13, 2015) at Asta Care Nursing Home in Bloomington following a courageous battle with Alzheimer's.
Visitation will be Friday, January 16 from 4pm - 7pm at Morgan Memorial Home, Savoy, IL and Saturday, January 17 from 10:00am - 12:00pm at Mason Christian Church, Mason, IL. The funeral will follow at 12:00pm.
Jerry was born August 10, 1939 in Mason, to Lynn and Myrtle Shumaker Ready. He married Glenda Broom of Edgewood on August 14, 1960 in Mason. After graduating from Effingham High School in 1957, Jerry moved to Champaign where he was employed as a carpenter for several homebuilders including Ted Langhoff, Jim Hansen, Bob Harsha, Joe Hallbeck and Tom Wisegarver. He started Ready Construction in 1975. Based on his reputation for creativity and perfection, he was sought out for uniquely designed and built custom homes and furniture.
Jerry enjoyed bass fishing from the time he was young. He began fishing bass tournaments in the 1980's and won his very first tournament (White Hen Pantry Tournament). He fished Bassmaster, FLW, and Red Man tournaments, which took he and Glenda on many adventures across the country.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Glenda, son, Bob (Kim) Ready of Bloomington, daughter, Joy (Ray) Johannes of Branford, CT, and grandchildren, Michael (Hannah) Ready, and Sarah Ready of Bloomington, Amanda Johannes, Killingworth, CT and Emery Johannes, Tampa, FL.
Also surviving are brothers, Dale of Mason, and Jim of Charleston, and sisters, Sandra Kay Volpi (Danny) Phillips, and Lynda Ready of Champaign.
His parents, siblings Barbara Ready, Buck Ready, and Johnny Ready, preceded him in death.
Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army or to a charity of the donor's choice.
