Lavern Avanelle McKinney, age 94, of Effingham, Illinois passed away at 6:01 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at Effingham Healthcare Center in Effingham, Illinois.

Graveside service will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 12, 2021 at Edgewood Cemetery in Edgewood, Illinois. Jim Giffin will be officiating. Memorials may go to the family to help with funeral expenses.

Avanelle was born on September 4, 1926 in Effingham County, Illinois, the daughter of Clarence E. and Flossie Faye (Pilcher) Shirley. She married Charles Dale McKinney on November 16, 1951 in Mattoon, Illinois. She enjoyed gardening, taking care of her flowers, and spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her son, Darien McKinney of Effingham, Illinois; daughter, Leta Condron (husband Ron) of Brownstown, Illinois; 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Flossie Shirley; son, Curtis McKinney; brother, Vernon Shirley; sister, Bernice Bailey; daughter-in-law, Paula McKinney.
