Marion Edwin Higgs Sr., age 81, of Mason, Illinois passed away at 12:20 a.m. on Saturday, September 3, 2022 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.

There will be visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, September 9, 2022 at Pagel Funeral Homes in Edgewood, Illinois. Cremation rites will be observed and burial will be at a later date in Mason Cemetery. Memorials may go to the donor's choice.

Marion was born on February 20, 1941 in Mason, Illinois, the son of Delmar E. and Oma J. (Hays) Higgs. He married Laverne Holzinger on February 20, 1981 in Effingham. In his earlier years, he enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a paper handler at World Color Press for 40 plus years.

He is survived by his wife, Lavern Higgs on Mason; sons, Ervin Higgs (wife Sharon) of Dieterich, Kenny Higgs of Pensacola, Florida, Eddie Higgs (wife Jodi) of Mason, James Hardig (wife Debbie) of Hurst, and Dean Hardig of Texico; daughters, Melissa Keller of Effingham, Judy Swift (husband Todd) of Urbana, and Doris Gocken (husband Dennis) of Champaign; brothers, Ivan Higgs (wife Suzie) of Mason and Dwight Higgs (wife Judy) of Jewett; sisters, Marvena Bowman (husband Kenneth) of Mason, Janice Cox of Mason, and Rita JoAnn Boone (husband Tim) of Mason; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Delmar and Oma Higgs and brother-in-law, David Cox.
