Raymond R. Scoles, age 96, of Edgewood, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at his home in Edgewood.
Funeral service will be held on Sunday, August 9th, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the Pagel Funeral Home, Edgewood, Illinois with visitation from 12:00 p.m. until the start of service. Nathan Delks will be officiating. Masonic Rites will be observed at 11:40 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Edgewood Cemetery or donor’s choice. Raymond was born on March 12, 1930, in St. Elmo, Illinois, the son of Benjamin M. Scoles and Nellie Tipsword Scoles. He married Diana D. McArtor on October 18th, 1963, at the Edgewood Christian Church, Edgewood, Illinois. Raymond was an Army veteran, having served from 1946 – 1950. He was a member of Edgewood American Legion Post #1168 and the Edgewood Masonic Lodge # 484. He enjoyed hunting, loved his farm, and quietly helping people when they needed it. He never needed any fanfare from his good deeds. Raymond was very proud of his immaculate yard. He will be greatly missed by all that loved him.
Raymond is survived by his wife, Diana D. Scoles of Edgewood, Illinois; sons, Russell (Marla) Scoles of Mattoon, Illinois, Jeff (Tina) Scoles of Flora, Illinois, Anthony (Rachelle) Limes of Tennessee, John (Pansy) Limes of Edgewood, Illinois; daughters, Cheryl Pemberton (Joe) of Salem and Doris Taylor of Princeton, Indiana; two sisters, Barbara Goldsberry of St. Elmo, Illinois, Mary Eagan of Sandoval, Illinois; two sisters-in-law, Joann Scoles of Dora, Missouri, and Bernice Scoles of St. Elmo, Illinois, 13 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Nellie; brothers, Jess, Merle, Len, Harry, Abe, Frank and John; three sisters, Jean, Zola, and Lola; and son-in-law Ed Taylor.
