Obituary

Ruby Irene Young, 94, formerly of the St. James area passed away at 7:05 p.m. Thursday, October 30, 2014 at Brookstone Estates in Vandalia, IL.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 2, 2014 at Macedonian Church, Loogootee, IL., with one hour viewing prior to service. Pastor Jim Zeigler and Pastor James Mulvaney will be officiating.  Burial will be in the Watson Cemetery, Effingham County. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at C & A Pagel Funeral Home, St. Elmo, IL.  Memorials may be made to the Fayette County Hospice or donor's choice.

Ruby was born on March 3, 1920 in rural Effingham County, the daughter of Lewis and Edith (Crosier) Ketcham. She married Lawrence L. Young on December 7, 1942 in St. Louis, Mo. He passed away on May 2, 1988. Ruby was an Avon Representative for several years.

She is survived by her two daughters, Barbara Newburn (husband Ronald) of Brownstown, and Suzie Pontious of Vandalia; five grandchildren, Kelly, Robyn, David, Shawn, and Douglas; four great-grandchildren; several step great-grandchildren, and two great- great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Lee, Leslie, Delbert, Bill, Eugene and one brother in infancy; three sisters, Mary "Tootie" Peterson, Emma Walker, and Helen Ketcham, who also died in infancy, and one grandson, Brian Newburn.
