Vernon Adolph Meyer, 94, of St. Peter, Illinois passed away at 4:05 p.m. Saturday, October 04, 2014 at St. Anthony Memorial Hospital in Effingham, Illinois.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 8 th at St. Peter Lutheran Church in St. Peter, Illinois at 11:00 a.m. with one hour viewing prior to service. Rev. William Emrick will be officiating. Burial will be at St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery with military rites. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at Pagel Funeral Home in St. Peter, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the St. Peter Area Cancer Support Group, St. Peter Lutheran pipe organ fund or the St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery.
Vernon was born on February 20, 1920 in St. Peter, Illinois, the son of George and Rose Meyer. He married Alma Runge on July 21, 1946 in St. Peter, Illinois. She preceded him in death on June 29, 2010. Vernon was a lifelong member of St. Peter Lutheran Church; He served in the U. S. Army during W. W. II stationed in England. He was a lifelong farmer, and a Supervisor for I.D.O.T. District 7 in Effingham, Illinois. He was actively involved in Wodtke - Rothe Reiss Post# 380American Legion; a member of the Forty n Eight, Elks, and the Moose Lodge.
Surviving are his sons, Bob Meyer and Marty Meyer, both of St. Peter, Illinois., Randy Meyer (wife Vicki) of Macon, Illinois; daughter, Peggy Bowen (husband Bruce) of Vandalia, Illinois; one brother, Elmer Meyer of St. Peter, Illinois; one sister, Geraldine Lange of Altamont, Illinois; son-n-law, LaVerne Fogler (wife Polly) of Chandler, Arizona; grandchildren, Shawn, Cassie, Chad, Kate, and Kelsey, and one great grandchild, Finley.
Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Karen Sue Fogler; one sister, Hilda Aukamp and one granddaughter, Leigh Ann Metzger.
