Wilbert Dean Higgs, age 74, of Mason, Illinois passed away on Monday, July 21, 2025 at St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri with his loving family by his side.

As per his wishes, he will be cremated with a private family graveside service at Mason Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Edgewood American Legion Post 1168, St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, or the donor's choice.

Wilbert was born on September 23, 1950 in Jackson Township, Effingham County, the son of John Oddress Higgs and Rose Mary (Yingst) Higgs. He married Sandra Webster on September 26, 1970. Wilbert enjoyed mushroom hunting, fishing and time spent with family, especially the hugs from his great-grandchildren.

Wilbert is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Sandy Higgs of Mason; son, Jerry D. (Charity) Higgs of Mason; daughter, Rhonda L. (Daniel) Weidner of Farina; Grandchildren, Wesley Weidner (Stormie Prater) of Farina, Erica Higgs (Cohen Collins) of Mason, John J. Higgs (Renee) of Evansville, Indiana, Travis Weidner (Justin Dulaney) of Ashford, Alabama; Great-grandchildren, Waylon James Dean Higgs and Silas Spracklin; Sisters, Marilyn O'Leary of Edgewood, Barbara Webster (Robert) of Mason, Darlene Dillingham of Port Richey, Florida, and many nieces, nephew, cousins, and friends.

Wilbert was preceded in death by his parents, John and Rose Mary Higgs; brothers, Larry Higgs and Duane Higgs; brother-in-law, Roland O'Leary; sisters-in-law Vera Higgs and Wanda Higgs.
