Wilbur R. Bartels, age 79 of Shumway, Illinois passed away 5:00 p.m. Friday, February 20, 2015 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Illinois.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at Pagel Funeral Home in Edgewood, Illinois with one hour viewing prior to service. Mark White will be officiating. Burial will be in Mason Cemetery in Mason, Illinois with military graveside rites by the Edgewood American Legion Post# 1168.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at Pagel Funeral Home in Edgewood, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the Mason Christian Church, Mason Civic Center or donor's choice.
Wilbur was born on February 7, 1936 in Mason, Illinois, the son of Arthur H. and Bertha D. (Strackeljohn) Bartels. He married Virginia Mae Hutton on January 3, 1959 at the First Christian Church in Stewardson, Illinois. He served in the Army for 6 years. He was a member of the Edgewood American Legion Post# 1168. He enjoyed farming, hunting, and being with friends and family, especially with his grandchildren.
Wilbur leaves behind his wife, Virginia Bartels of Shumway, Illinois; son, Roy Bartels (wife Kathy) of Stewardson, Illinois; two daughters, Karen Anderson (husband Kevin) of Ottawa, Illinois and Rose Bartels of Jewett, Illinois; brother, Walter Bartels (wife Judy) of Mason, Illinois; five grandchildren, Roy Bartels, Jeremiah Bartels, Joseph Galloway, Melissa Anderson and Laura Anderson; two great- grandchildren, Dreyden Bartels and McKenzi Bartels.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Sarah Bartels; four brothers, Clarence, Carl, Monroe and Cecil Bartels; four sisters, Nora Ashby, Lola Mitchell, Anna Kincaid and Bernice Gressel.
