Edward Cleo DeWeese, age 82 of Mason, Illinois passed away at 6:03 p.m. Thursday, February 10, 2022 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Illinois.
Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at Pagel Funeral Homes in Edgewood, Illinois with a one-hour viewing prior to the service. Kent Robinson will be officiating. Burial will be at Arborcrest Memorial Park in Effingham, Illinois. Military Rites will be observed. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at Pagel Funeral Home in Edgewood. Memorials may go to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Jim Beam’s Corner Cattery, Effingham County Humane Society, or the donor’s choice.

Edward was born on July 5, 1939 in Mattoon, Illinois, the son of Roy L. and Sarah M. (Davis) DeWeese. He married Marlene Wharton on September 3, 1960 in Watson, Illinois. Edward served in the United States Army from 1958 to 1960. During his time in the Army, he was fortunate enough to meet and serve with Elvis Presley. He enjoyed watching tv, his dogs, mowing his grass, and spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. To Edward, family was the most important part of life. Edward’s motto was “mow to live, live to mow”. He attended Iola Missionary Baptist Church and retired from Henderson Trucking in Salem. Edward had the biggest heart and would do anything for anyone. He will be dearly missed by all.
He is survived by his wife, Marlene DeWeese of Mason; daughters, Brenda Gerdes (husband Mark) of Mason, Shelly Gardner (husband John) of Effingham, Angela Hawn of Mason; brothers, Paul DeWeese (wife Carol) of Argenta, Leo DeWeese (wife Becky) of Effingham; sister, Patricia Green (husband John) Ione, California; 6 grandchildren, Lindsay, Ashli, John Michael, Trey, Jordan, Nicholas, and 9 great-grandchildren, Briana, Connor, Wade, Hunter, Aubree, Sadie, Charlotte, Bentley, and Holden.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Sarah Deweese; brother, Jim DeWeese; sister, Sarah Elam; and two siblings in infancy, Linda and William DeWeese.
