Eva Lavern Poe

Eva Poe, 91 of Dieterich, IL gained her angel wings Friday, December 4, 2020 at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Effingham. 

Services will be held at a later date. 

Eva was born on December 29, 1928 in Oden, IL, the daughter Clyde and Ethel (Minton) Shelton.  She was blessed with eight siblings:  Paul, Gene, Betty, Thomas, Joyce, Gary, Millie, and Doug.  

Eva married Roy Johnson in 1944.  She was a loving and supportive wife, traveling the world while Roy served in the U.S. Navy.  They welcomed their only son, James in 1951.  Jimmy was her pride and joy and continues to reside in California with his wife, Frances, and Eva’s granddaughter, Jennifer Johnson.  Roy tragically passed away in 1974.  

On December 28, 1976 Eva married Kenneth Poe of Dieterich, IL and gained three stepchildren that she loved as her own: Kevin Poe, Karla Woods, and Kent Poe.  Kenny and Eva lived a quiet life in rural Dieterich and enjoyed time with their family and close friends.  Eva visited with her sisters often, lovingly recalling memories from their childhood.  Eva will be best remembered as one of the world’s best grandmothers. She loved each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren beyond measure.  She lovingly spoiled them with warm hugs and their favorite home cooked dishes.  

Eva is survived by her siblings, Joyce Kreke and Doug Shelton; children,  Jim Johnson (wife Frances) of Hayward, California, Kevin Poe (wife Tina) of Dieterich, IL, Karla Woods (husband Clay) of Dieterich, IL, and Kent Poe of Dieterich, IL;  grandchildren,  Charles Hodge, Jennifer Johnson, Billy (wife Hanna) Hodge, Christina Ordner (husband Chris), Jacob Chisler (wife Mallory), Phillip Chisler (wife Sarah), Chelsea Poe, Casey Poe, Makayla Poe, Teddy Poe, Hailey Poe, Amber Poe, and Anthony Poe; great-grandchildren, Sydney Hodge, Zoe Hodge, Calvin Althoff, Rylea Hodge, Madyson Hodge, Cooper Chisler, Landon Woods, Braydon Poe, Izzaiah Poe, Bella Ordner, Violet Ordner, MacKenzie Chisler, Clara Chisler, Kohen Denton, Lochlan Woods, Wyatt Ordner, Wade Chisler, Eva Chisler, and Johnny Chisler. As Eva gained her angel wings, her newest great-grandchild was born, Johnny Walker Chisler.  

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roy Johnson; husband, Kenneth Poe; siblings, Paul, Gene, Betty, Tom, Millie, and Gary; and granddaughter, Heather Rose Poe.
