Franklin Henry Scoles, age 85, of St. Elmo, Illinois, passed away at 2:35 a.m. Saturday, April 4, 2020 at his home in St. Elmo, surrounded by his loving family.
There will be a memorial visitation from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2020 at New Horizons Church in St. Elmo, Illinois. Military rites will be observed. Memorials may go to the family or the donor’s choice.
Frank was born on October 7, 1934 in St. Elmo, Illinois, the son of Benjamin and Nelly (Tipsword) Scoles. He married Zelma Bernice Harris on October 7, 1976. He loved dirt track racing, building race cars, woodworking, welding, dancing and socializing with friends and family. Franklin worked many years as an avid welder, as well as in the oilfield. He served in the Navy during the Korean War from 4/1/1951 through 3/19/1954. He was a member of the American Legion and NRA.
He is survived by his wife, Bernice Scoles of St. Elmo, Illinois; three sons, Benjamin Scoles, Billy Stewart, Shawn Stewart; four daughters, Angela Leonard (Mike), Tamara Stewart, Nema Renee Scoles, Pam Sowers (Tim); two brothers, John Scoles (JoAnn) and Ray Scoles (Diana); three sisters, Zola Limes, Barbara Goldsberry, and Mary Eagan; sister-in-law, Lina; son-in-law, Kevin Kerry; 16 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and 6 great great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Nelly Scoles; daughter, Florance Brna; two great-granddaughters, Ashley Adams and Samantha Purcell; siblings, Jess, Abe, Pauline, Len, Lucy, Lola, Merle, Harry, and Jean; mother-in-law, Clara Harris; father-in-law, Arthur Harris; several brother and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
