George Hamilton McElyea, age 82, of Farina, Illinois passed away at 8:15 p.m. Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham, Illinois.
There will be no services per his request. Burial will be at Keen’s Chapel Cemetery in rural LaClede, Illinois. Memorials may go to George’s family.
George was born on August 29, 1938 in Clay County, Illinois, the son of Floyd E. and Nellie M. (Pickle) McElyea. He married Betty Ann Cook on November 13, 1967. He was an avid Chicago Bears fan. He enjoyed riding around looking at the scenery and deer and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his sons, Greg McElyea of Edgewood of Edgewood, Illinois and Richard Simmons of Clay City, Illinois; daughters, Tammy Verdeyen (husband Ron) of Mason, Illinois, Mary Ann Johnson of Edgewood, Illinois, and Daisy Gelsinger (husband Rick) of Kinmundy, Illinois; many brothers and sisters; 8 grandchildren and one great-grandson, Kayson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Nellie McElyea; wife, Betty Ann McElyea; brother, Jr McElyea.
