Gregory Alan Lankford

Gregory Alan Lankford, age 58, of Watson, Illinois passed away at 6:35 a.m. Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Illinois.

There will be a walk-through viewing from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 31, 2020 at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham, Illinois. There will be a private family funeral service following. Burial will be at Arborcrest Memorial Park in rural Effingham, Illinois. Memorials may go to American Cancer Research, St. John’s Food Pantry, or the donor’s choice.

Greg was born on May 27, 1962 in Effingham, Illinois, the son of Gerald and Vernabelle (Pagel) Lankford. He recently retired from Effingham Unit 40 where he worked for 28 years. He was a favorite among the kids at the Early Learning Center, where he was lovingly referred to as “Mr. Greg” by students and staff alike. Greg was rarely seen without his cup of coffee and a scratch off lottery ticket in hand. He loved fishing, reading mystery novels, and spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. 

He is survived by his parents, Gerald and Vernabelle Lankford of Effingham, Illinois; sons, Daniel Lankford (wife Hayley) of Effingham, Illinois and Gregory Lankford (wife Jessica) of Farmersville, Texas; daughter, Christine Pervenecki (husband Michael) of Effingham, Illinois; sisters, Scarlet Rios of Florida, Jadean Dirks (husband Doug) of Rochester, Illinois and Valena Soltwedel (husband George) of Effingham, Illinois; seven grandchildren, Madison Schabbing, Austin Murphy, Lily Pervenecki, Axton Lankford, Arwen Lankford, Harlow Pervenecki, and Owen Lankford.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Gerald “Bo” Lankford Jr.
