James Russell Pattillo was born January 23, 1946, in Centralia, Illinois, son of Odis and Rachel (Hudson) Pattillo, and Stepmother, Chloe (Baker) Pattillo. He graduated from St. Elmo High School in 1964. After briefly attending college, he joined the United States Navy where he served his country with honors. He passed away on October 5, 2022, at a hospital in Port Charlotte, Florida surrounded by his family and friends after a brief illness.
Services will be held on November 3, 2022, at 10am at Deep Creek Community Church, 1500 Cooper Street, Punta Gorda, Florida 33950. Burial will follow on December 8, 2022, at 2 pm at Maplewood Cemetery in St. Elmo, Illinois. He enjoyed playing golf, traveling, playing basketball with his grandson, and spending time with his family and friends. He spent most of his life working in the oil industry. He was always available to help his family and friends and he enjoyed his time spent in Florida over the last several years.
Survivors include his daughter, Kimberly, and his grandson, Dalton, of Punta Gorda, Florida; his brothers, Steve Pattillo of Altamont, Illinois and Dewayne Hamlin of Carbondale, Illinois; Sister Ann (Ron) Shyer of Cedar Park, Texas; Sister-in-law, Janet Pattillo of Altamont, Illinois; Brother and Sister-in-law Keith (Bobbie) Robertson of Boise, Idaho; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Cheryl, and his infant son.
