Jonathan Barcus Obituary

Jonathan “Jon” Eugene Barcus, age 78, of Effingham, Illinois passed away at 9:20 p.m. Thursday April 15, 2021 at the Aperion Care Nursing Home in St. Elmo, Illinois.

There will be a visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 22, 2021 at Pagel Funeral Homes in St. Elmo, Illinois. Memorials may go to the donor’s choice. 

Jon was born on September 7, 1942 in Urbana, Illinois, the son of Harold E. and Faith M.(Scott) Barcus. He married Marilyn Joyce Haslett on February 17, 1965 in Charleston, Illinois. Jon and Marilyn were married for 53 years prior to her death in August of 2018. Jon was a general contractor who owned and operated Barcus Construction for many years. Jon enjoyed visiting with family and friends, country music, and attending stock car races and auctions with friends.  He is survived by his four sons, Jonathan Barcus Jr. (wife Brenda) of Peoria, Illinois, Mike Painter of Effingham, Illinois, Randy Barcus (wife Pam) of Montgomery, Texas, Jim Barcus of Effingham, Illinois; sister Joann Burt (husband Bob) of Urbana, Illinois, brother David Barcus (wife Kathy) of Champaign, Illinois and sister Debra Labelle (husband Michael) of Richland, Washington; 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Marilyn Barcus, father, Harold Barcus and mother Faith (Scott) Barcus.
