Larry Cain Obituary

Larry Jay Cain, age 82, of Mason, Illinois passed away at 10:16 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, 2020 at St. Anthony Memorial Hospital in Effingham, Illinois, surrounded by his loving family.

There was a private family graveside service on Saturday, May 9, 2020 at Watson Cemetery in Watson, Illinois. Mark White officiated. Memorials may go to American Cancer Society or the donor’s choice.

Larry was born on December 14, 1937 in Cowden, Illinois, the son of James and Madeline (McGlennon) Cain. He married Vivian J. James on February 26, 1961 in Watson, Illinois. Larry retired at Local 841 out of Terre Haute, Indiana at Operating Engineers with 45 years of service. He was member of Edgewood Masonic Lodge and a lifetime member of the Sons of American Legion. He loved fishing, hunting, mushroom hunting, riding his side by side, and spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Vivian Cain of Mason, Illinois; son, Doug Cain (wife Sherri) of New Knoxville, Ohio; daughters, Dailene Griffin (husband Keech) of Altamont, Illinois and Diana Mitchell (husband John) of Iola, Illinois; brother, Danny Cain (wife Judy) of Salem, Illinois; three sisters, Judy Horn (husband Jim) of Effingham, Illinois, Pat Arnold of Iuka, Illinois, Shirley Shoemaker of Centralia, Illinois, and Luann Nice (husband Jerry) of Neoga, Illinois; 8 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Madeline Cain; son, David Cain; brother, Harold Cain; one grandson, Andrew Cain; son-in-law, Sammy Flowers.
