Margaret R (McHenry) Cummings

Margaret R. Cummings, age 95, St. Elmo, Illinois passed away Saturday, October 8, 2021, at Lakeland Health Care Center Effingham, Illinois, with her family by her side.

Funeral service will be held on Monday, October 11, 2021, at 3:00 p.m. at Pagel Funeral Home, St. Elmo, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at Pagel Funeral Home, St. Elmo, Illinois. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery, St. Elmo, Illinois.  Pastor Tom Fedrigon will be officiating.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Jude’s Children Hospital or donor’s choice.

Margaret was born May 10, 1926, in Carmi, Illinois, the daughter of Henry and Allie (McHenry) Sanders. She married James D. Cummings on September 21, 1946, in Carmi, Illinois. She was a member of the St. Elmo Christian Church. Family was her greatest blessing, and she will be remembered for her love of cooking and baking, especially her sugar cookies, big meals, and holiday gatherings.  Margaret and James ran a craft store for many years, with James doing the woodworking and Margaret assembling and arranging the crafts. Margaret was an avid Chicago Cubs fan, celebrating with family and friends when they won the World Series.

Margaret is survived by two daughters, Cindy Harnish of St. Elmo, Illinois, and Lisa Kelly (husband Tom) of St. Elmo, Illinois; five grandchildren, nine, great-grandchildren, and eleven great-great grandchildren.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Allie Sanders; four brothers, Jack Sanders, Wilbert Sanders, Donnie Sanders, and Edward Sanders; four sisters, Ella Lopinot, Henrietta Ruiz, Sarah Campbell, and Edith Blackford; grandchildren, Michael Harnish and James Harnish; son in law, Allan Harnish.
