Marvin was born on January 24, 1941 to Alwin and Margret (Rubin) Wollin at their farm home in St. Peter, Illinois. He was baptized on February 9, 1941 and confirmed April 3, 1955 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. He was blessed to grow up in a loving family of five sisters and three brothers of which he was the eldest. He attended St. Peter Lutheran School, Farina High School, and proudly obtained a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois in 1966.

On July 16, 1966, Marvin married Karen Chrisman also from St. Peter. They were blessed with one child, Mary Elizabeth. He proudly worked as a Civil Engineer with the Bechtel Group for 39 ½ years. This career gave him opportunities to live in cities across the U.S. as well as abroad.

In 2016, Marvin and his wife Karen returned to St. Peter, Illinois to spend more time with family and farming. He loved to cheer on his beloved Cardinals, admire the John Deere line of equipment, travel, and catch fish.

Throughout Marvin’s life he was truly dedicated to his family and service to the church. He actively served within multiple roles within the various churches that he was a member of. He was very honored to help develop a mission church Grace Lutheran in Henderson, Nevada. Since returning to St. Peter, he became very active again with St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, serving as an elder and co-chairing the 150 anniversary celebration committee.

Those who knew Marv would tell you about his remarkable, unwavering faith and sound advice. He always worked to help others succeed. He was a great example to live our life by. He was known for his honesty, caring, sincerity, integrity, being a man of his word, his persistence, determination, humbleness, and doing everything in honor of God.

His greatest love was his family. Although he lived at a distance, he always did everything to show up for the important events in people’s lives, whether it be a wedding, anniversary celebration, or funeral, or to drive a John Deere tractor for Prairie Days with his father, brothers, nephews, and eventually a great nephew.

He is survived by his wife, Karen; daughter, Mary (Joey) Dawson of Houston Texas; his three brothers, Kenneth, Dennis (Theresa), and Darrell (Sandy); his sisters, Barbara Shelton, Sharon Moss, Rosemary (Jim) Gibbons, and Rhonda (Scott) Comrie; brothers-in-law, Kent Chrisman and Bill Schneider; many special nephews, nieces, and great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, Hillard and Violet Chrisman; sister, Betty Schneider; nephew, Timothy Schneider; and brother-in-law, David Shelton.
