Michael “Mike” Eugene Robertson I, age 82, of Mason, Illinois passed away at 4:43 p.m. Saturday, September 30, 2023 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.
Funeral service will be at 3:00 p.m. October 22,2023 at Altamont Christian Church. Visitation will be from 1 to 3p.m. prior to the service. Pastor Jody Kitts will be officiating. Burial will be at Mason Cemetery. Mike was born on August 12, 1941 in Effingham, Illinois, the son of Oscar E. and Helen L. (Michael) Robertson. He married Patsy Lu Hays, the love of his life on December 29, 1963. Michael was proud to be an American soldier. After traveling the world and retiring from 22 years in the Army, he was a successful door to door insurance salesman, scissor sharpener, oral historian and community builder. He imparted on his children a love of music, travel, and a good story. Mike never met a stranger, and he could strike up a conversation with anyone. As a sergeant in the Army, his boundless body of knowledge, world travel, experience and curiosity, gave him a fearless dialogue style, challenging everyone about geography, history, politics, and religion. Throughout his life he was a Sunday School teacher, song director, church treasure, a member of Free Will Baptist Master’s Men, and the American Legion.
He is survived by his sons, Gene Robertson (Michael Eugene II) of Nashville, Tennessee and Anthony Thomas Robertson (wife Rebekah) of Mason; daughters, Corinna Sue Williams (husband Thomas) of Valparaiso, Florida and Vennia Maria Petty (husband James) of Beecher City; sister Betty June Husky, (husband Terry) of Springfield; 9 grandchildren, Bruce Petty (wife Jennifer), Holly Pruemer (husband Jacob), Maria Petty(wife Tia), Emily Petty, Trey Robertson (Michael Eugene III), William Robertson, Samuel Robertson, Hollis Williams, and Norah Robertson; 7 greatgrandchildren, Ashland, Savanah, Quincy, Waylon, Ridge, Maylee, and Wylie. He was Gramps to these and so many others.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Helen Robertson; his beloved wife, Patsy “Pat” Robertson; sister, Deborah Endenbrock; and two cherished twin sons.
