Roy J. Conard Jr.

Roy Jenkins Conard Jr., age 76, of Edgewood, Illinois passed away at 10:18 a.m. on Friday, April 28, 2023 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 5, 2023 at Pagel Funeral Homes in Edgewood, Illinois with a one-hour visitation prior to the service. Ronnie Frazier will be officiating. Burial will be at Tipsword Cemetery in Beecher City. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, May 4, 2023 at Pagel Funeral Homes. Memorials may go Roy’s family.

Roy was born on December 9, 1946 in Waynesville, North Carolina, the son of Roy Jenkins and Mary Conard. He married Lucy Gillespie on September 17, 1993 in Effingham. Roy was a Deacon at Bethsaida Church for many years. He loved fishing, gardening, camping, watching wrestling, and spending time with his family and friends. He cherished his time spent with his grandchildren: Nevaeh Conard, Lilly Gillespie, and Hanna Gillespie.

He is survived by his wife, Lucy Conard of Edgewood; sons, Roy Conard of Blacksburg, South Carolina, Lee Conard (wife Leah) of Gastonia, North Carolina, Roy J. Gillespie Sr. of Edgewood, Johnny Gillespie (wife Jessica) of Effingham, Leslie Gillespie (fiancé Alyssa) of Effingham, Hank Conard of Edgewood, and Anthony Jenkins of Edgewood; daughters, Rebecca Conard (husband Jason) of Branson, Missouri, Dana Conard of Gastonia, North Carolina, and Amanda Jenkins of Edgewood;  sisters, Sarah Frizzell of North Carolina, Mary Lou Reece of North Carolina, and Lorine Murphy of Dieterich; 36 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Kari Conard; brothers, Mack Locust and Frank Locust.
