William Paul Edward Reid Sr.

William Paul Edward Reid Sr., age 82, of Effingham, Illinois passed away at 7:45 p.m. Friday, December 18, 2020 at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Effingham, Illinois.

There will be a public walk-through viewing from 8 to 9 a.m. Monday, December 28, 2020 at Pagel Funeral Homes in Edgewood, Illinois. A private family service will be held after. Jim Helm will be officiating. Burial will be at Keen’s Chapel Cemetery in rural LaClede, Illinois. Military rites will be presented by Edgewood American Legion post #1168. Memorials may go to the donor’s choice.

William was born on May 28, 1938 in Centralia, Illinois, the son of Paul Edward and Lorene (Hatfield) Reid. He served in the United States Navy from May 25, 1956 to October 29, 1958 on the U.S.S. Frontier and was stationed in San Diego, California.

He is survived by his sons, Paul Reid (wife Lulabelle) of LaClede, Illinois, Billy Reid (wife Dawn) of Odin, Illinois, John Wooters of Effingham, Illinois; daughter, Robin Shoemaker (husband Jimmy) of Salem, Illinois; brothers, Chuck Reid (wife Gayle) of Salem, Illinois and Bob Reid of Farina, Illinois; sisters, Kathy Smith of Salem, Illinois, Barb Tucker (husband Jim) of St. Elmo, Illinois, Dorothy Watson of Salem, Illinois; grandchildren, Brett Reid, Blake Reid, Paul Reid Jr, Mercedes Reid, Cody Shoemaker, Kayla Shoemaker, Colton Shoemaker, Stephanie Dodson, Rachel West; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Lorene Reid; son, Michael Reid; brothers, Steve Reid and Ronnie Reid; brother-in-law, Gary Smith Jr.; sister-in-law, Gwen Reid.
