William "Bill" Schwengel Obituary

William “Bill” P. Schwengel, age 81, of Dieterich, Illinois passed away at 12:46 p.m. Saturday, November 21, 2020 at St. Anthony Memorial Hospital in Effingham, Illinois.

There will be a private family graveside service. Burial will be at Bethsaida Cemetery in Dieterich, Illinois. Memorials may go to Bethsaida Congregational Christian Church, Bethsaida Cemetery, or the donor’s choice. 

Due to Covid-19 concerns, if attending the private service, it is required to wear a mask and follow social distancing guidelines.

Bill was born on December 7, 1938 in Shumway, Illinois, the son of Emery C. and Velma V. (Jacobs) Schwengel. He married Avanell Wagoner on March 29, 1957 at Bethsaida Congregational Christian Church. Bill was a member of the Bethsaida Congregational Christian Church where he preached for 28 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, farming, telling stories, and spending time with his family and friends. Bill and Avanell enjoyed playing music and hosting New Years Day celebrations at their home for their friends and family to attend.

He is survived by his wife, Avanell Schwengel of Dieterich, Illinois; sons, Charles Schwengel, Wyatt Schwengel (wife Michelle), and Travis Schwengel (wife Amy); sisters-in-law, Patsy Hebron (husband Larry) and Glenda Stock (husband Alan); grandchildren, Hailey Depoister (fiancé Sean Alexander), Whitley and Casandra Schwengel, Caleb Schwengel, Waylon and Joshua Schwengel; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Emery and Velma Schwengel; three sons in infancy; sister, Judy Davis; brothers-in-law, Marvin Davis and Billy Wagoner; and his dear cousin, Dean Mills.
