William Forman Fairchild, age 74, formerly of Altamont, Illinois passed away at 8:07 a.m. Thursday, July 14, 2016 at Aperion Care in St. Elmo, Illinois.

Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 17, 2016 at C & A Pagel Funeral Home in St. Elmo, Illinois. There will be a one-hour viewing prior to the service. PeeWee Denton will be officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, July 16, 2016 at C & A Pagel Funeral Home in St. Elmo, Illinois.  Burial will be at Knob Prairie Cemetery in Waltonville, Illinois at a later date. Memorials may go to C & A Pagel Funeral Home to defer funeral cost or donor’s choice.

William was born on September 26, 1941 in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, the son of Walter E. and Goldie L. (Lass) Fairchild. He married Judy Pagel on June 21, 2016 in St. Elmo, Illinois. He was an avid Cardinal baseball fan and enjoyed listening to country music and spending time with his family and friends. He successfully completed the Civil Defense Adult Education Program on June 7, 1967 at the Lincoln State School in Lincoln, Illinois.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Fairchild of Altamont, Illinois; daughter, Angela Allen (husband Mike) of Granite City, Illinois; three step-sons, Jimmy Harris of Indiana, Todd Harris of Lincoln, Illinois and Jerry Lewis (wife April) of Lincoln, Illinois; two grandchildren, Natasha and Mathew Allen of Granite City, Illinois and 12 step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Goldie Fairchild and one brother in infancy.
